gea-Methodist National School (ACS) Launches STEM Week

Ipoh, May 20, 2024— Methodist National School (ACS) celebrated the grand opening of its annual STEM Week with the launch of a groundbreaking Used Cooking Oil Recycling program in collaboration with Green Energy Asia (GEA). This month-long event, running from May 12 to June 12, 2024, is designed to foster awareness about environmental sustainability among students, teachers, parents, and the broader school community.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Headmaster Tuan Sargunawaran A/L Manickam. In his address, he emphasized the importance of integrating environmental consciousness into education. The ceremony also featured a captivating opening gimmick and the official launch of the “Recycling Used Cooking Oil” program. A symbolic handover of used cooking oil, collected from the school community, was made by the principal to GEA representatives for ethical disposal.

Educational Initiatives and Activities
As part of the program, a Knowledge Talk on “Recycling Used Cooking Oil” is scheduled for May 23, 2024. This session involved students from years 5 and 6, providing them with insights into the recycling process of used cooking oil and highlighting the critical role they can play in protecting the environment. This educational initiative aims to instil a sense of responsibility and awareness among young students about sustainable practices.

Formalizing the Partnership
The collaboration between ACS and GEA was officially formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony held during the launch event. This agreement marks a year-long partnership from May 20, 2024, to May 20, 2025, and outlines the objectives and commitments of both parties in promoting environmental sustainability through the Used Cooking Oil Collection program.

Objectives of the Collaboration

1. Promoting Environmental Sustainability: The primary goal of this collaboration is to encourage the recycling of used cooking oil into biodiesel, thereby reducing environmental pollution and promoting sustainable energy practices.
2. Educational Outreach: The program seeks to educate students on the importance of recycling and environmental protection, enhancing their understanding of the impact of waste and the benefits of sustainable practices.
3. Community Involvement: By involving the entire school community in the collection and recycling process, the initiative aims to create a collective effort towards environmental stewardship.

A Remarkable Initiative
The efforts of the Methodist National School (ACS) community in launching this program reflect a commendable commitment to environmental sustainability. The activities planned during STEM Week serve as an inspiring example of how educational institutions can lead the way in fostering a sustainable future. This initiative not only enhances the students’ learning experience but also contributes significantly to the broader goal of environmental conservation.

Congratulations to all members of the Methodist National School (ACS) for their dedication and proactive steps towards a greener future. This partnership with Green Energy Asia is a significant milestone in the journey towards integrating practical environmental education within the school curriculum.
