IPOH, September 30 – Efforts to encourage the community of Manjung to adopt better environmental practices have been strengthened with Manjung being designated as a new district for the efficient and ethical collection of used cooking oil. This initiative aligns with the commitment to ensure environmental sustainability through more organized and responsible recycling practices.
This collaboration was formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Green Energy Asia (GEA, also known as Biovisma Sdn Bhd) and the Manjung Municipal Council (MPM). The MoU was signed by Yang Dipertua MPM , Muhammad Faizal Shah Safian Suri, and GEA Managing Director, Mervyn Cheng, with the aim of creating a positive impact on the local community and contributing to environmental preservation.
This partnership not only focuses on the ethical collection of used cooking oil but also aims to reduce pollution and enhance sustainable recycling practices. It is aligned with the goal of improving eco-friendly waste management, which is expected to have a positive impact on Manjung’s environment.
A Two-Year Agreement
In the first two months of operation, 2.2 tons of used cooking oil have already been collected, indicating a positive response from the local community to this initiative. A total of 37 establishments have committed to disposing of their used cooking oil through GEA, which now acts as a strategic partner for MPM. The number of participating premises is expected to continue growing as awareness and commitment to environmental stewardship increase among the community.
Raising Awareness and Cultivating a Sustainable Culture
The collaboration between GEA and MPM is expected to raise deeper awareness about the importance of environmental care, particularly among the residents of Manjung. This initiative also aims to strengthen the culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility within the community, making Manjung a model for efficient management of used cooking oil disposal.
Ethical disposal of used cooking oil not only helps to reduce pollution in rivers and drainage systems but also contributes to efforts to lower greenhouse gas emissions. With a more systematic approach to waste management, Manjung can play a significant role in achieving the goals of Perak Sejahtera 2030 and the Donut Circular Economy 2027, which emphasize sustainability and social well-being.

The strategic partnership between GEA and MPM represents an important step towards creating a greener and more sustainable future in Manjung. With the support and involvement of the community, this initiative is expected to serve as a model for other districts in implementing effective and ethical waste disposal practices.
